Worship Overview

The Episcopal Church welcomes you.

Worship is at the center of life at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. While we delight in showing our hospitality, we know that visiting any church for the first time can be a little daunting.

For those who are new to liturgical worship, please don’t worry if things are unfamiliar. Primarily, remember this is a celebration and we’re glad you’re here. It’s perfectly appropriate to simply listen and watch until you feel ready to join in.

Worshiping With Us

You will find two different books in the book rack of your pew: The Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 1982.

As an Episcopal church, our order of service (all the liturgies) comes from the Book of Common Prayer. We print a bulletin every week that contains all of the page numbers you will need, as well as the verses from our Bible readings. Participation is a pretty vital component to the life of our worship, so we encourage you to follow along with the liturgy outline in the service bulletin.

Singing With Us

Hymns from the Hymnal 1982 are identified in the bulletin by hymn number. If there is an "S" before the hymn number (for example S125), the music can be found at the front of the Hymnal.

Sit, Stand, or Kneel?

There's a lot of movement for us Episcopalians during service. As a norm, we stand for processions, the reading of the Gospel, the creeds, and the hymns. As you are able, it is generally appropriate to either stand or kneel for prayer and the Holy Communion, but there is no requirement that everyone make the same choice. Unity, rather than uniformity, is what we seek in our common worship.

Holy Communion

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at the table. As directed, approach the altar rail. Stand or kneel and wait for the minister to come to you.

To receive the bread, place your right hand over your left, palms up, and the minister will place the bread in your hand. If you do not wish to drink (or dip your bread into) the wine, you may return to your seat.

Children & Families

Families and children are welcome and encouraged to participate in all services, especially the 10:30 Sunday service.

Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings from 9:15-11:30am (the end of second service). The nursery is located on the first floor of the Great Hall. Enter in through the main door to the doors all the way at the end of the hall.

We are delighted to welcome you to our parish! It is our greatest hope to reveal God's joyous love and healing to all. If you've been looking for a place to fit in, a parish to call home, you are welcome here.

We've tried to include everything about us on our website, but if you have more questions, please do not hesitate to call our office at 865-983-3512.
