“If you are not in a place to approach another person as beloved of God, you may want to take the time to pray for them. Prayer is a sanctifying act. God will burn off the dross of bitterness and resentment, and help us to love our brother and sister.”

Free Moms Hugs

The first Blount Pride Event takes place on Saturday, Aug 24!It does not include a parade, but will be a series of family-friendly events at The Bird & The Book in Maryville, from 3-10pm. Please contact me for the specific list of events/times. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend. Andy and I will be in Nashville for the statewide GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) planning session for this next school year. It was difficult to choose just one of these great events! We hope that by going to Nashville we will learn more ways for us at St. Andrew’s to support the LBGTQ youth of East TN. It would be great for St. Andrew’s to have a visible presence (St. Andrew’s t-shirts and FMH/FDH t-shirts) at Blount Pride even though I won’t personally be able to attend. I know it is just around the corner. Please contact me if you are able to attend, so we can put together a plan for our presence.

Angel Tree Volunteers Needed

The Salvation Army welcomes volunteers to assist with Angel Tree registration the week of Sept. 10. Angel Tree is an outreach that provides Christmas gifts to children in low-income families.Typically, we serve over 300 children each year. Volunteers are needed to welcome applicants, review required documentation, and record requests. We like to have at least five people working each shift. Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes early for their shift, so that they can be oriented to their task for the day. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially welcome! If you would like to volunteer, we need you to register in advance. Please e-mail Capt. Maureen Diffley at Maureen.diffley@uss.salvationarmy.org or call her at 865-361-0051. She will provide a more detailed explanation of the process.

Available shifts include:

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
September 10, 12 & 13
4:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.

Wednesday & Saturday
September 11 & 14
9:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Adults in the WAY

We are wrapping up our summer series following the Episcopal Church’s Way of Love this Sunday. Whether you have attended one or all of the classes, we invite you to join us as we summarize some of the things that have delighted or amazed us, as well as things we have put in place to bring our lives more in line with the life God wants us to lead. We will meet at 9:15 am either in the Upstairs meeting room or the Katie Barr room, which ever is open. Come join us!

Each of us should try to live in a way that will make the truth of Jesus’ saving love real to the people with whom, and among whom, we live.

Holy Conversations

Dear Friends,

For the Search Committee, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your engaging with us in Holy Conversation. Over ninety parishioners of St. Andrew’s participated in Holy Conversation, and I truly believe most, if not all, will agree that, as we laughed together, cried together, and shared our stories within our groups, the Spirit was present and guiding us to a deeper understanding of where we are, where we are going, and who we want to be as parish, doing God’s work in this portion of God’s vineyard.

The next step in the process is drafting the Parish Profile. What we learned during the Holy  Conversations will be of invaluable assistance in the Search Committee’s preparation of the Parish Profile.

We are grateful for your prayers and expressions of support in this work for the St. Andrew’s family, and we appreciate all who engaged with the Search Committee in Holy Conversation.

Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Faithfully yours,

Doug Overbey
Search Committee Chair
